It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Alice Keeping, 91, formerly of 1 Beacon Crescent, North Sydney, on Wednesday, July 17, 2014, at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Born in Ramea, Newfoundland, Alice was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Warren) Kendall.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Alice loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed playing cards.
Alice is survived by her three daughters, Mary (Clarence) Brown, Sydney Mines, Lucy (Donnie) Cyr, Pictou, Patsy (Bill) Nugent, New Glasgow; by her sons, Tom (Leitha) Keeping, Tignish, PEI, Melvin Keeping (Ginger), North Sydney; by her nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and her daughter-in-law, Linda Keeping, North Sydney.
Alice was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband Freeman Keeping, a granddaughter, four sisters, Mary, Harriet, Florence, Melida and three brothers, Edgar, Ivan and Tom.
Visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
