Roger Caron

CARON, ROGER LAURENT - After only nine months without his beloved wife (our Mom Catherine) Dad decided it was time to meet up with her on the other side and passed away peacefully in his favourite chair at home. Our most endearing image of Dad is him in that very chair decked out in his Pyjamas reading the newspaper! Not just one daily/weekly paper but several in both official languages. Our Dad was a quiet man! Not one to immediately dispel words of wisdom but when he did!! We listened!!! (even when he thought we didn't- we always did!) He was a man of great intellect and one who relished giving back to his community through volunteerism to the local hospital board, the provincial Real Estate association, the National Chamber of Commerce, the National Parole Board of Canada to name a few! He actively participated in the political process and at one point ran for the Federal Progressive Conservatives in the late 1970's. Even in his early life, he showed leadership having been a King's Scout, starting his career as the youngest management hire in the financial services industry, and winning several national sales awards in the automobile industry! For the last 40 odd years he ran his own real estate firm and was instrumental in bringing to New Brunswick motel chains and helping to developing pockets in the Northern New Brunswick area. He never retired from work and as recent as last week, he was working on real estate deals. Besides his work, his family meant the world to him! Especially his grandchildren- from playing monopoly with A.J., to talking to Joshua about his adventures over seas, and to Keri Anne about her academic and career achievements! Like our Mom, he would give us the figurative kick in the butt when we needed it and like Mom was always there to support us even when he might not necessarily agree with us. We are going to miss him singing off key, his scattering of newspapers around his chair, and his story telling and adventures of his youth! He is survived by his children Johanne, Patricia (Tom), Michel (Margo), and Lise; by several siblings (five sisters and one brother) and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his three grandchildren who, when they were smaller thought he looked like Santa Claus with the white hair and belly-minus the beard!
The funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Monday at 11:00 am.
