RAYNES, JOHN ARTHUR – It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John Arthur Raynes which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 19th, 2014. Born 1942, in Saint John, he was the son of Helen (Raynes) Speight and the late Arthur Speight. John worked for the Province of NB as a ferry operator in Grandbay-Westfield for 20 years. In his earlier years, John served in the Navy HMCS Buckingham from 1960 to 1963. He was employed with Joseph A. Likely Ltd. from 1963 to 1978. John had a passion for old cars and he loved to attend legion dances. John is survived by his companion Sharon McKenzie of Summerville, NB; sons John (Roxanne) of Summerville, NB, David of Summerville, NB, Kevin (Mary) of Saint John; daughter Vickie Moore (Rob) of Dartmouth, NS; brother-in-law Robert O’Donnell (Donna) of Saint John; sisters-in law Dianne Moore of Summerville, NB, Ruth Despres of Toronto, ON, Judy O’Donnell of Saint John; grandchildren Steven, Chanelle, Kylee and Wyatt; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his father, John was predeceased by his wife Gail, brother Arthur Speight, sister Jane Edwards and brothers-in-law Jimmy Moore, Cleo Despres and Patrick O’Donnell.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Wednesday, July 23rd at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at Loyalist Cemetery Hardings Point.
