Mary (MacNeil) MacAdam

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: July 19th, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mary (MacNeil) MacAdam on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alex N. and Catherine Anne (MacKenzie) MacNeil. Mary grew up in the town of Dominion and was a graduate of St Anne’s High School. She then graduated from the Empire Business School in Sydney, N.S. and then began her career with the Royal Bank of Canada that would last for more than 40 years commencing in Sydney and ending in Glace Bay in 1988.
Following her marriage to our late father, Donald A. MacAdam, Mary moved to Glace Bay and was a devout member of St Anne’s parish, involved for many years as a member of the CWL and ladies' choir, from which she formed many friendships.
Mary’s favourite times were spent surrounded by her family and friends at home or at her bungalow in Christmas Island with lots of music; she could often be found at the piano stool leading a “sing song” with her wonderful piano playing.
Active in her community, Mary was a founding member of the Cape Breton Chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, serving on the executive for more than 25 years as organ donation was important to her.
Mary will be greatly missed by her five children, Donnie (Norma), St. Margaret’s Bay, N.S., Colin (Cindy) Milford, N.S., Donalda (Danny) Chauder, Kenneth (Danette) Cathy (Robert) MacDougall, all of Glace Bay. She is also survived by her sisters, Theresa Price, Hastings, Ont., Sr. Lucy MacNeil CSM, Inverness, N.S., Catherine Mazzocca, Guelph Ont., Judy Morris, Glace Bay and brother, Sandy MacNeil, Sydney, N.S. Mary is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel (Melissa), Mary Beth and Catherine Chauder, Colin, Colton, John Kenneth and Michael MacAdam, Adam, Katie and Robyn MacDougall. Mary was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Logan and Lydia Elizabeth Chauder. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Zita MacNeil, Sydney and brother-in-law, Alex (Evelyn) MacAdam, Antigonish, N.S.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; loving husband, Donald (1990); daughter-in-law, Cindy (MacDougall) MacAdam; brothers, Ronnie, Roddie, Kenzie, Norman Ignatius in infancy; sisters, Genevieve McIntyre and Mary in infancy.
Visitation will take place today (Monday, July 21) at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 22 at 10 a.m. in St Anne’s Church with the Rev Leo Boone officiating. The interment will follow at the parish cemetery.

The family extend a special thanks to the staff of Seaview Manor for making her home our home for the past nine years.
