Passed peacefully away on Saturday, July 19, at the Health Sciences Centre, Bernadette Murphy, in her 87th year. Predeceased by her youngest child, John, her parents, John William and Elizabeth (Bell) Murphy, and her siblings: Jim (Ruth deceased), Gerald, Margaret Grace (Vincent deceased), and Catherine Green (Gary - Tacoma, Washington). Leaving with heavy hearts and happy memories, her husband of 58 years, Edward, as well as their children: Paul and his wife Lola; and Ann, who along with her husband, Stephen May, and their children, Tim and Nikola May, comprised our small family. Bernie also leaves to mourn her oldest brother, Walter, in British Columbia, and her youngest sister Mary (Tom Howley) in Ontario, her sister-in-law, Joan Murphy (Andrew deceased), as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends in Newfoundland and Sarasota, Florida, where Bernie and Ed spent over twenty years enjoying life. Special thanks to Bernie's long-time physician, Dr. Fred Jardine and his assistant, Rosemary, as well as the residents and staff of Kenny's Pond Retirement Community, where Bernie and Ed lived happily for the last six months, especially the second floor medical staff and Dr. Patrick O'Shea. Also, to the doctors, nurses, and staff of 4 South A at the HSC, your professionalism and caring will always be appreciated. At Bernie's request, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 22 at 10am at Holy Family Parish on St. Thomas Line, Paradise, with interment to follow at St. Thomas of Villa Nova Cemetery, Topsail, where Bernadette will be laid to rest beside her beloved son John.
