IRVINE, Bernard Kenneth “Bernie” – age 85, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Berwick, on May 8, 1929, he was a son of the late Fred W. and Elsie T. (Murphy) Irvine. Bernie had been a member of the Grafton Baptist Church, was a graduate of Mack’s Business College, Kentville, and was well known for owning and operating Bernie’s Gulf Service Station, South Berwick, for many years. He was a life-time member of the Berwick & District Lions Club, joining in 1990 and had received the Melvin Jones Award. Bernie had volunteered with the M.S. Society and the C.N.I.B. He loved life and lived it to the fullest and had many interests including plowing snow, snowmobiling, boating, four wheeling, camping, frequent visits to the shore and enjoying his favourite meal of lobster. Bernie was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be ever loved and missed by them. Surviving are his loving & dedicated wife of 61 years, Shirley M. (Chute) Irvine; son, Randy (Patricia) Irvine, Grafton; daughters, Wanda (Alex) McGillivray, Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.; Sheila (Randy) Veinotte, Berwick; grandchildren, Jason (Amie) and Bradley Irvine; Joseph, Mitchell and Kassey McGillivray; Lee and Jeffrey Veinotte; great-granddaughter, Mya Irvine; step-granddaughter, Nakia (Mark) Bedry; brother, Lewis (Lillian) Irvine, Hantsport; sister, Jean Irvine, Grand View Manor, Berwick; sister-in-law, Thelma Chute; brother-in-law, Lewis (Inez) Chute, all of Berwick; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Ronald Irvine; sister, Doris Irvine; nephew, Gregory Irvine. There was no visitation. A service in celebration of Bernie’s life was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 25, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Marilyn Rose officiated, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. A reception took place at the Berwick & District Lions Hall, 250 Veterans Dr., Berwick. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (Atlantic Division), Canadian Red Cross Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Annapolis Valley Branch. The family is very appreciative to Bernie’s care giver Joy of 2 ½ years, as she assisted Shirley in his care.
