M. Adele Fraser

Born: May 11th, 1952

Passed in: Alder Point
Passed on: July 26th, 2014

It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Mary Adele Fraser, regretfully announce her passing on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 11, 1952, she worked much of her life in the restaurant business; owning and operating her own for a few years. Her greatest passion in life was working with and spending time with elderly people.
The last several years, she worked for the Miners Memorial Manor where she had the pleasure to work with, and spend time with, seniors. It was there that she met and gained friendships within the staff and residents. Always the fun-loving woman, she loved to entertain the staff and residents by dressing up in various wigs and costumes, as well as bringing in presents and treats to them. She thrived on being able to make someone smile and make you feel loved; a task in which she did so perfectly.
Adele also had a great love and passion for animals. She was very active in helping and feeding feral cats in her local area. She would be known to spend most of her time and paychecks to feed and buy/build shelters for local stray cats. There was rarely a day that passed that you wouldn’t find her at the local grocer buying cat food and treats. She would spend hours playing with and feeding them. She was also very active in having them spayed or neutered, as well as finding homes for them, two of which she personally took home that became her babies.
Adele also had amazing faith. Her church and her God meant everything to her. She loved spending time with her prayer group; a wonderful group of people who helped her, more than they are aware, to get through her times of great despair. It was her strong faith and love in God that helped her stay strong through her struggle and pain.
She also had respect, love and admiration for her AA family. They all had a special part in life and helped her through many obstacles in her 12 years of sobriety. She will forever watch over each of you with strength and encouragement.
Above all else, Adele’s biggest love was for her family. She leaves behind to mourn, her best friend and husband of 36 years, Ronnie Fraser, whom she loved with all her heart. The two had a great love for the sea, as well as for one another. They would often be seen on their boat together fishing or sitting by the shore. Her presence will forever be missed.
She also leaves behind her two sons, Michael White (Nicole) of North Sydney, whom was lovingly raised by his maternal grandparents, Charlotte and Patrick White, Robert Clarke (Barb) of Sydney, who was her pride and joy. By her five incredible grandchildren, Alicia, Kianna, Devlin, Nathan, Kameron and two great-granddaughters. By her beloved mother, Charlotte White; her sister, Florence MacDonald (Peter); three brothers, Jerry, John (Tanya), Leo (Sherry), as well as many very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving father, Patrick White, her son Kenneth Clarke in infancy, her very special sisters, Kay Barnes (Tiny), Veronica White, two brothers, Simon, Johnny and her grandparents, Michael and Catherine White, Jeremiah and Elizabeth Whitty.
Adele lived and loved life. She felt incredibly fortunate to have the family and friends she had around her. There was never a day, even in her most vulnerable and sick time, which she didn’t pray lovingly for everyone. Those who knew her best knew she was always worried about everyone more than herself. Always with kind words and a smile on her face, she faced this challenge with dignity and hope. There will be a forever void in our hearts and lives that she once filled.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to the Dr. Beth MacCormick, the palliative care nurses at Cape Breton Regional and 4th floor at Northside General hospitals, as well as the VON who took such great care of her during her illness. To Fr. Patrick O’Neill for your kindness, support and love and to the many friends and family who stuck by her when she needed it the most.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating, with burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church Improvement Fund and to the local SPCA.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
