Lillian MATHESON

Lillian (Smart) Matheson, of Scotsburn, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 25, 2014 in her 99th year.
She is survived by twins, Phyllis and John (Joan) of Toronto; granddaughter, Jennifer (Chris) of Los Angeles; grandson, David of Toronto; great-grandchildren, Jack and Shane, Toronto; Katie and Thomas, Los Angeles; devoted friend and caregiver, Melida Munden of Rose Blanche, NL.
She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth; grandson, Jason; and sister, Katherine.
Lillian was the youngest daughter of Rod and Lina (Bell) Smart.
She graduated from the Provincial Normal College and School of Household Science in 1935. She taught school in Heathbell, Scotsburn, Durham, and from 1958-1980 at McCulloch Junior High School, Pictou, from which she retired. Lillian was a faithful member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of Grace AMS. She was a Life Member of the Canadian Bible Society.
We rejoice in the life she lived – she was not old for long.
Cremation has taken place. The family will welcome friends at the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou on Friday, August 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn on Saturday, August 2 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Norman Marple officiating. Interment in Bethel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel Presbyterian Christian Education Permanent Fund or a charity of one's choice.
