Gloria Irene (nee Swenson) Nielsen
April 26, 1929 - July 24, 2014
Gloria Nielsen was born on April 26, 1929 in Spruce Home, Saskatchewan, and passed away peacefully on July 24, 2014, at the Victoria Hospital , Prince Albert, SK with her family by her side. Gloria was the youngest daughter of Carl and Olina Swenson. She grew up in Spruce Home, Saskatchewan, where she helped out on the family farm and saw mill while she attended Hanna School, babysat, and worked at the Spruce Home Telephone Exchange Office. On May 5, 1951, Gloria married the love of her life, Jens Nielsen, and moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to start a family. Gloria and Jens celebrated 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2008. Gloria was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt, and great aunt. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, flowers, and birds and was an avid Toronto Blue Jays, and curling fan in later years. She took great pride in caring for her family through means of cooking, babysitting, and sharing stories with them. The memory of her life is cherished by her four children, her 3 sons Keith (Gail), Lloyd (Margaret), Bruce and daughter Darlaine (John) Spicer, as well as 8 grandchildren: Heather Nielsen, Dana (Patrick) Coates, Benjamin (Bobbi), Matthew, Nathan (Dakota Marino), and twins Jennifer (Bodan Worobetz), Joshua (Sharla) Spicer and William Nielsen, and three great grandsons; Ethan Coates, Kaedin Spicer, and James Coates; her sister Ida Graupe, her brother Lorne Swenson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her faithful companion (dog) Lady. She is predeceased by her parents Carl and Olina Swenson, her husband Jens Nielsen, her sister and brother-in-law Verna and Raymond Ueland, her brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Lillian Swenson, her brother-in-law Asbjorn Graupe, her sister-in-law Wendy Swenson, her father and mother-in-law Anders and Marie Nielsen, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Viggo and Signe Jensen, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sigurd and Anne Nielsen. The Funeral Service will be held at MacKenzie Chapel, 130-9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. It is the family’s request that those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Prince Albert SPCA, at Box 1832, Prince Albert, SK S6V 6J9, Evangelical Lutheran Broadcast, at Box 1717, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T3 or donor’s choice.
