Age 90, of Lower West Pubnico, died Saturday, July 26, 2014, at home. Born in Lower West Pubnico, he was a s on of the late William Austin and Mary Odelle (Brown) Surette. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 66 West Pubnico and a honorary member of the West Pubnico Fire Department. He is survived by his sons, Allister (Jill) of Lower Argyle, and Mervin (Ida) of Lower West Pubnico; daughter, Celia (Aubrey) Spinney of Pubnico; brother, Joe of Middle West Pubnico; sisters, Freda d’Entremont of Lower West Pubnico; Doris d’Entremont of Meteghan, and Jane (Norbert) d’Entremont of Yarmouth; grandchildren, René, Candice, Angela, Leslie, Kate, Marcel and Nadine and sister-inlaw, Jean Surette, Lower West Pubnico, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Evelyn d’Entremont; brothers, Arthur, Harvey, Richard, Howard, Joseph and Walter and his sister, Ava. Wilbert worked with pride and joy all his life for his brother Walter in the fishing industry, having only to walk across the street to go to work. He was a kind and gentle man with a warm smile, still with a full head of hair at the age of 90. Family was his biggest pride and enjoyment. A great husband, father and grandfather, being with his children and his grandchildren was his biggest joy. Wilbert always had a healthy appetite and enjoyed a good meal with family. You could often see him on the road touring in his little green car and meeting up with his older brother Joe. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday July 30, 2014 from the St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Middle West Pubnico with Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Cemetery or a charity of choice.
