Dorothea Maria Dunphy

Passed on: August 2nd, 2014

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dorothea Dunphy (nee Coleman) announces her passing in St. John's, NL on Saturday, August 2, 2014, in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald Joseph, her parents Peter and Bridgit (Ryan) Coleman, her sisters, Mary Daly, Evangeline Barry, Rita Goodridge, and her brother, Wilfred Coleman. She leaves her beloved daughters, Janet Joyce (John) of Peterborough, and Maureen Faour (Fonse) of St. John's, and seven grandchildren: Andrew Joyce, Kingston, ON; Dr. Michael Joyce, Richmond, VA; Richard Joyce, (Juliette) Davis, CA; David Faour (Sarah), Centerville, NS; Elizabeth Faour, St. John's; Peter Faour, Ottawa; and Thomas Faour, Antigonish, NS. Dorothea was born in Badger, and moved to Corner Brook as a small child. Dorothea attended Mount St. Bernard College in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Boston, MA. Following this, she worked as an operating room nurse in the original Western Memorial Hospital until her marriage. Dorothea was a model for us all in aging with elegance and grace, and loving and supporting her children and grandchildren. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren. She developed a close relationship with each of them and followed their lives and careers with great interest, always providing them with encouragement, and celebrating with them the milestones in their lives. She will be deeply missed by us all. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue from 2 - 4 in the afternoon and 7 - 9 in the evening. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Corner Brook, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mt. Bernard Avenue. Interment to follow in Townsite Cemetery, Montgomery Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Parish. The family guest book may be signed by visiting our website, www.fillatre.ca.
