WALKER, GEORGE - George Alexander Walker, age 86, of Saint John, died peacefully on August 4th, 2014 in the Saint John Regional Hospital, following several years of declining health. Born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, he was the son of the late Edward and Mildred (DeMerchant) Aroostock, NB. George is survived by his wife of 62 years Aleta (Plant), children; Ann (Phillip Read) Halifax, Peter (Judy Curran) Central Greenwich NB, Monica Mullin (Larry Giddings) Saint John, much loved grandchildren Sarah (Jeff Batten), Kate (Craig MacLellan), Laura Walker (Matthew Robichaud), Ben Mullin, Joel Read, Alyssa (Timothy McInerney), Riley Walker and great grandchildren; Chelsea, Joshua, Madelyn, Cohen, Sophie, Walker, Cara and Emma. He is also survived by sister Edith Burley, Moncton, brother Alton (Arlene) Tinker, NB and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by daughter Evelyn (2000); brothers Thomas and Lawrence, and sister Ethel (Briggs). A dedicated employee of NB power for 30 years, George was an avid collector of antiques, coins and other historical memorabilia. He was a member of Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, Saint John, and a past member of the NB Antique Auto Club and Benjamin Lodge No 31, Andover NB. George found enjoyment in people, was a great storyteller and generous in spirit. A heartfelt thank you to his caregivers on 5CN Saint John Regional and to the staff of Kennebec Manor for your loving and compassionate care over the past 4 years.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of George’s life will be held 1:00pm Thursday, August 7th at Fundy Funeral Home, Westmorland Rd. Saint John, with a reception following. Family flowers only. Interment to follow at a later date in Saint Georges Anglican Cemetery, Bairdsville, NB. Those wishing to make a donation in George’s memory are asked to consider the Evelyn Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund at UNB Fredericton, Kennebec Manor, or Saint Georges Anglican Cemetery Bairdsville, NB.
