We, the family of Gertrude Jennie Gunderson, sadly announce her passing on Aug. 3, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Gertie was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Sydney, N.S. She was the only daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (Murray) Sears.
Gertie was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, John Gunderson.
She is survived by her three children, Robert (Bev) Gunderson, Truro, Debbie (Ricky) Brennick, Sydney, and Susan (Jim) Coffin and her much adored grandchild Holly Coffin, Sydney.
Gertie was employed for many years with the Royal Bank of Canada and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce from which she retired in 1994. She talked fondly of the friendships she made through her work and would so enjoy their “get-togethers” when they occurred.
We would like to send a special thank you to Home Instead Senior Care, specifically Chris Robertson, Michelle MacNeil and Anita Breen for their kindness and professionalism to Gertie and her family. We would also like to thank the nurses and physicians at the Renal Clinic (Paula, Steffi, Wendy and Clara and doctors Thana, McCarville and Yeung), who played such a pivotal role in her life for the past 10 years. Finally, thank you to the nurses and physicians working in the Intensive Care Unit (Melissa Sue, Danielle, Krista, Kim, Andrew and Shelly) who gave her such special care during the final days of her life.
A private interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
