Robert (Bob) Gordon, longtime resident of Wayne, NJ and recent resident of Hampden, ME, died peacefully of natural causes at Stillwater Healthcare in Bangor, ME on July 10th, 2014 at the age of 80.
Bob was born January 14, 1934 in Passaic County, NJ to Garret W. Gordon and Matilda Ruckstuhl Gordon who died in childbirth. Mrs. Carol Schmeltzer Gordon became his adoptive mother.
Bob graduated Fairlawn High School in 1953 and attended Fairleigh Dickenson University before entering the US army at the age of 23 years where he served as a ballistic meteorologist and was on ski patrol in Berchtesgarten, Germany. In 1957 he received commendation for his rescue of a student trapped and injured on a 4,500ft peak.
Following his decorated career in the army Bob began his life's work in marketing and served as national sales manager for major electronics companies Panasonic and Sharp and was Vice President of Casio Inc. Consumer Division.
Bob married his wife of 54 years, Martha Neuffer, in 1960 and raised his family in Wayne NJ for 50 years where they were members of the Dutch Reformed Church in Pompton Plains.
From youth, Bob was an avid outdoorsman and his family will cherish the days of camping, fishing, swimming and boating on the Hudson River, golfing and skiing. His fondest times were spent at the family's summer home on Point Prim, Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.), Canada.
Bob is survived by his wife, Martha Gordon; children, Katherine Gordon of Aspen, CO, Robert (Robb) Gordon and wife Christen of Bangor, ME and Melissa Rossi, husband Ron, and grandson Daniel of Tuxedo, NY.
A private service for immediate family and close friends will be held in P.E.I., date and time to be determined.
