Bernadette MacIsaac

Annie Jane Bernadette MacIsaac – Wellington Street, Pictou passed away peacefully in the Aberdeen Hospital on August 4, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Inverness, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Martin & Mary Jane (Deveaux) Lafort. Bernadette is survived by her ten children, sons, Gerard (Ann), Inverness; Donald (Laverne), Dartmouth; Paul (Michele), Pictou; John, Pictou; Allan, Granton; Peter (Kelly), Alberta; Colin, Pictou; daughters, Christina (Robert) Baillie, Trenton; Rose, Pictou; and June (Bernie) Snyder, Georgia. She was also survived by her twenty one grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brothers, Beaver, Lloyd, Eddie, James, Patrick, Angus L and several nieces and nephews. Bernadette was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty four years, John; son, Brian Alexander MacIsaac; great-granddaughter, Madison Reade; brothers, Benedict, Joe Bert, Alexander, Dan C. Jack, Archie; sisters, Mary and Catherine. In her younger years, she worked with her father helping him to run his business, and at the Inverness Consolidated Hospital. Once her children were born she dedicated her whole life to raising them and taking care of her soulmate John. Her children will always remember her as the anchor that grounded their family and a mother who always showed that we were her first priority. She never made us feel like dedicating her whole life to us was a sacrifice because dedicating herself to us was all she wanted and needed in life. She loved taking her children for walks on the beach, picking, and picking berries. She also loved taking long drives in the country with her husband and sitting on the waterfront eating ice cream. Visitation will be held on Thursday August 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, August 8 at 11AM from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Tom MacNeill officiating. There will be a reception immediately after the service in the church hall. Burial will be in Stella Maris Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the IWK Children’s Hospital.
