John "Jack" Madden

MADDEN, JOHN "JACK" C. - John “Jack” C. Madden, 103, of The Briarlea, Moncton and formerly of MacBeath Ave., passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, August 7, 2014. Born in Stellarton, NS, he was the son of the late John and Loretta (Campbell) Madden. Jack was a self employed salesman and a former employee with Lawson Jones Ltd. and Royal Print and Litho Company. He retired in 1996 as one of the top calendar salesmen in Canada. Jack’s charismatic charm and positive outlook on life served him well in his lengthy career in sales and he became friends with New Brunswick’s business elite – such as the McCain brothers and K.C. Irving. An avid reader and sports enthusiast, he kept himself physically fit by working out daily in the small gym in the basement of his home. He also enjoyed reading, swimming, skating and curling and until a few years ago, he played a full eighteen holes of golf several times a week. At age 85, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and became the oldest graduate in St. Francis Xavier University history - the same university that he left 67 years earlier in his freshman year. Jack will be sadly missed by his sisters, Loretta Madden of Dartmouth, NS and Irene Lapine of Ottawa, ON; his nephew, Dennis Madden (Diana) of Moncton; stepchildren and their families; other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel (Johnson) (1993), second wife, Mary (Torley) (1997) and third wife, Gladys (McKay) (2013); son, Wayne Madden (1986); brothers and sisters, Joseph, Frank, Margaret, Blaise and Adrian.
