Ruth Margaret MacAskill, 82, passed away on Aug 7, 2014, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, N.S.
Born in Glendyer Inv. Co., she was the daughter of the late Daniel William and Martha (Mason) Hawley. She was a member of St. Ann’s Bay United Church. Ruth was very involved in her community and her church, lending her time and talent to a variety of causes. A lifelong member of the united church she served as a member of session and with the UCW. Ruth loved her extended family, her boys and their spouses and especially her grandchildren. Ruth loved Cape Briton (Breton) Scottish fiddle music, and she loved food. She was well known for her cooking and baking even after her vision began to fail. Ruth was always quick to offer a cup of tea and home baking to whomever stopped in, she will be missed by family and community.
She is survived by sons, George Wayne (Peggy Ryan) and William Carl (Donna Hillier); brothers, Aubrey and Daniel Hawley; grandchildren, George Thomas and Shae-Lynn MacAskill.
She was predeceased by her husband, George A. 'Geordie' MacAskill; sister, Josephine; brothers, Clair, Samuel, William and Robert.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at St. Ann’s Bay United Church on Sunday, Aug 10, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 a 2 p.m. with Rev. Diane Kempt officiating with burial in Bay View Cemetery, Englishtown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Liver Foundation, CNIB or a charity of your choice.
