BERNIER, JOSEPH PAUL – It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Joseph Paul Bernier which occurred unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, August 7th, 2014. Born 1952, in Saint John, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marion (Bezeau) Bernier. Joe worked for Killam Properties as a maintenance property manager for over 10 years. In his earlier years, he was owner and operator of Bernier Construction with his brother David and later worked for Kincade Properties. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to go boating. He was a great cook and he cherished time spent at his camp. He especially loved the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. Joe is survived by his loving wife Debra (Fulton) of 42 years; sons Richard (Erin) and Matthew of Saint John; granddaughter Cadence who was the joy of his life; siblings David (Janice), Bea Jackson (Mitch), Anne Mason (Delbert), Marie Hunter (Andy), Cecile Hill (Wayne), Brenda Bernier (Harvey), and Susie Somers all of Saint John; mother-in-law Ethel Fulton; sister-in-law Marilyn Stevens (Wayne); as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother Wally and father-in-law Harold Fulton.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Monday, August 11th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday, August 12th at 11 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment will follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Tabernacle Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
