TRENTON – James Marshall “Jim” Weatherbie, 87, Trenton, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 8, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Trenton, he was a son of the late Percy Raymond and Bertha Viola (Brown) Weatherbie. Jim began working at the age of 15. He worked at several jobs in Ontario and Prince Edward Island before settling into his lifelong job at Trenton Works from where he retired after 44 years. He made many friends over the years at the plant. It was in Trenton that he settled down with the love of his life, Georgina “Jo”, where they would raise four children and he would become papa and grampie to three grandchildren. Jim enjoyed woodworking, playing crib and drinking Pepsi. He was a kind and gentle soul with a dry sense of humour and a love of family which surpassed all else.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Georgina Janet (MacKay) Weatherbie; daughters, Linda Diggins (David Grosvold), Trenton; Gloria Weatherbie, Trenton; Norma (William) Wilson, Springville; son, Jim (Brenda) Weatherbie, Trenton; grandchildren, Amanda Diggins, James Weatherbie and Taylor Weatherbie; sister, Shirley Moore, Brunner, Ont.; brother, William “Bill” (Barb) Weatherbie, Trenton; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mabel in infancy and Francis Irving; brothers, Raymond, Roland, Earl, Herb and Doug; niece, Barb Ryan; grandniece, Dawn Ryan.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, August 11 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 12 in the chapel with Rev. Glenn Breen presiding, assisted by Rev. Wade Reppert. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
