Claudine Samson died peacefully at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion in St. John's, NL, on 4 August 2014 at age 95. She was a long-time resident of Gander, and moved to Caribou Pavilion about 4 years ago. She had taught school for several years in Tacks Beach, Curling, and Pouch Cove prior to enlisting in the Canadian Air Force during World War II. She was stationed in Ottawa. After the war, she was an accountant for the Department of Transportation in Gander. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Joseph A. and Melina Samson (of Flat Island, Bonavista Bay), her brothers, F. Scott Samson and Albert Samson, and her nephew, Albert Stone (of Jacksonville, FL). She is survived by her sister, Hilda M. Stone (of Colt's Neck, NJ); 6 beloved nieces and nephews (Roslyn Stone [John Wilson] of Pittsburgh, PA, Karen Stone [Vernon Nicodemus] of Seattle, WA, Robbyn Stone [Gary Zika] of Houston, TX, Terry Stone [Denise] of Hamburg, Germany, Jerold Stone [Rosemarie] of Collingswood, NJ, and Daryl Stone [Shawn Roarke] of Matawan, NJ; 12 great nieces and nephews; and her close cousins Carolyn Hallett (of London, ON), Christine Hallett (of Halifax, NS), Sandra Hallett (of St. John's) and Natalie Hallett (of St. John's). A "Last Post" ceremony will be held at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion, 90 Forest Road, in St. John's at 11 am on Friday, 15 August. She has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held at St. Martin's Cathedral in Gander on Saturday, 16 August at 11:30 am, followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery in Gander. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either St. Martin's Cathedral, 132 Airport Blvd. Gander, NL.
