On the evening of Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, heaven’s gates opened to receive an angel. Margaret Veronica MacDonald, 75, passed away surrounded by her loving family at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Mary (McInnis) McNeil.Until her retirement, Margie was employed as house keeping supervisor at the Glace Bay Community Hospital. Truly a woman of substance, her selfless devotion to her family, community and church, St. Anne’s (as a Lay Carmalite) was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Margie is survived by her husband, Michael MacDonald, two sons, Danny (Cecilia), Michael (Priscilla), six daughters, Debbie Remo (Albert), Josephine Currie, Michelle (Robert McInnis), Marie MacDonald (Kevin), Danette Doucet (Darrell), Dawn MacDonald (Dean). Also surviving are four sisters, Edna (Brian) Ashe, Reserve Mines, Mary (Greg) Boutilier, Glace Bay, Judy (Brendan) Mackie, Gardiner Mines, Irene (Dan) Fortune, Glace Bay, 16 grandchildren, Francis, Jason, Shaun, Matthew, Justine, Christopher, Hillary, Jessica, Erika, Justin, Kailey, Jordan, Nathan, Brooke, Bailey, Josh and eight great-grandchildren, Maria, Molly, Cohen, Matthew, Benjamin, Hailey, Catherine, Alyssa and many special nieces and nephews.
Margie was predeceased by her three brothers, Danny, Earl, Johnny and her son-in-law, Lorne Currie.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The KOC will hold a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Bridgeport followed by a reception in the church foyer at St. Anne’s.
