It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roderick ‘Tub’ Stubbard, BA, MS Economics, Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on Aug. 31, 1976, in Glace Bay, he was the son of George and the late Ann (McLean) Stubbard.
Rod earned his BA and Masters in Economics from Saint Mary’s University. He was employed with Big Guns Energy Services in Red Deer, Alta. for the past three years. He was also employed with Baker Huges for eight years. Rod was an excellent and well loved co-worker to many. He was an engineer and extremely happy with his place of work.
Rod enjoyed camping in his beautiful camper which he shared with many friends and family. He just celebrated his 20th year high school reunion and truly enjoyed meeting everyone. He enjoyed darts, horse racing and was an avid baseball fan as well as a hockey fan, he loved the Montreal Canadiens. Rod had been home for a summer vacation where he got to enjoy time with his nieces and nephews; he thought the sun rose and set on all of them.
Rod shared a home with his big brother, George (Lori) and his special niece, Paige in Red Deer. He is also survived by two other brothers, Davey and Craig, both in Glace Bay, one sister, Ida (Joe O’Reilly) and his dad, George Stubbard, (Donna). Rod will be sadly missed by four nephews, Wyatt, Breton, Cal, Morgan, five nieces, Tonya, Nanci-Gayle, Kelsey, Paige, Elin and on the way, (Sawyer to be born soon), special sisters-in-law, Francine McNeil, Angela Mackie, brother-in-law, Calvin McNeil, numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Rod was predeceased by his mother, Ann Stubbard, his sister, Wanda McNeil, aunts, Marion Saccary, Lillian Paulin, Geraldine Turnbull, uncles, Sheldon Stubbard, Rolphe McLean, Morris McNeil, infant nephew, Braedon Stubbard, Jared Stubbard, and his cousin, Sgt. Jimmy McNeil.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 ,7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral Mass officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, followed by a reception in the church hall. Cremation to take place after the mass with burial at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Bridgeport.
As an expression of sympathy for Rod, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
