It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Elsie Mae 'Tootie' Clarke, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sussex, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Adam Cameron and Mildred (Fowler) Cameron. Elsie had a number of jobs throughout her life. In earlier years she worked at Woolworth’s in Greenwood and later at the post office in Baden and Geilenkirchen, Germany and the Canex in Trenton, Ont. Elsie was a kind, loving and generous lady who was always helping people and especially those less fortunate in times of need. She was a very compassionate person who always put other people ahead of herself. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Clarke; her two daughters, Susan Clarke-Tizzard, Sussex, Heather (Dewayne) Lucas, Fergus, Ont., and her son, Joseph (Pam) Clarke, Oshawa; her seven grandchildren, Abel, Mestewat and Zelalem Tizzard, Justyne and Robert Lucas and Karen and Kimberley Clarke and also her five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her son, Ronald Clarke in 1964.
The family would like to thank the palliative care and the VON for the excellent care given to Elsie during the past number of months.
Visitation for Elsie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans War Chest, the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton or the Victorian Order of Nurses.
