MEADOWS, BARRY BARBEAU - Barry Meadows passed away at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 15, 2014 at the age of 85. Born at the Stamford Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario on September 16, 1928, Barry was the son of the late Vera Marie Barbeau and James William Meadows. He attended public schools in Stamford, Ontario then moved to Fredericton where he attended the University of New Brunswick and earned his Forestry degree in 1954. After graduation, Barry returned to Ontario where he worked for the province at the Department of Lands and Forest. In 1956 he ventured back to New Brunswick and worked for the provincial government in St. Stephen, and in 1960 he moved to Fredericton. There he held various positions within the province such as Director of Lands, Assistant General Manager of the New Brunswick Forest Authority, Director of the Forest Utilization Branch, and Director of the Fish and Wildlife Branch from which he retired in 1991. While working in Fredericton, Barry met JoAnne Legace and they eventually married in Houlton, Maine on February 5, 1966. Barry’s hobbies included hunting water fowl, fishing, traveling and spending time with JoAnne and their close friends. Barry is survived by his son Jarret Meadows and his wife Melissa of Fredericton, as well as two sons from his first marriage; Brock Meadows of Selbyville, Delaware, and Bradd Meadows, his wife Carol, and their two daughters Taylor and Courtney, all of Crofton, Maryland. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sandra Jardine of Fredericton, his sister-in-law Carmeline Avery of St. Stephen, his brother-in-law Jeff Legace and his wife Janice of Fredericton, and his nieces Trudi Jardine and Katie Legace of Fredericton. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife JoAnne (May 3, 2008), his brother-in-law Paul Jardine and his brother-in-law Bev Avery. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, Extra-Mural staff and caregivers who have helped Barry over the years. Special thanks to his longtime caregiver Donna.
Honoring Barry’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Following cremation, a private interment will be held in the Hermitage Cemetery. Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, NB have been entrusted with arrangements. For those who wish, memorial tributes to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
