PITRE, GLORIA JEAN - 1941 - 2014 - Gloria Jean Pitre of Saint John, NB passed away peacefully August 15, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Saint John on April 28, 1941 the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Grace (Johnston) Shannon. Gloria was the devoted wife to the late Stephen Pitre (12/1996) for 34 years. They owned and operated Toppy’s Convenience Store in Hampton PEI prior to her retirement in 1997. Gloria loved reading and cooking but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Gloria will be deeply missed by her children John (Margaret) Pitre, Grand Bay, NB; Suzette (Raymond) Lacenaire, Moncton, NB; Andrew Pitre, Oromocto, NB and her daughter-in-law Jennifer Pitre, Stratford, PEI. Gloria was predeceased by her youngest son William “Bill” Pitre (06/2014). Gloria’s pride and joy were her seven grandchildren: Marc Lacenaire, Robert Pitre, Daniel Lacenaire, Katherine Pitre, Grace Anne Moore, Alyson Pitre and Henry Pitre. Gloria leaves behind five brothers: Bud (Jean), Gagetown, NB; Jack (Mag), Hamilton, Ont; Gerry (Claudette), East Mountain, NS; Jim (Jeannette), Smith’s Creek, NB and Bob Shannon, Halifax, NS., as well as, two sisters: Shirley LeBlanc (Fred) Saint John, NB and JoAnn Welch (Allan), Black River , NB. The family would like to thank the nurses on 3D South and 3B North for their exceptional care.
Honoring Gloria’s wishes, there will be no visitation and cremation will be entrusted with Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local food bank or a charity of the donor’s choice.
