LINACY – K. Wayne Young, 69, Linacy, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Robert Parker and Margaret Amelia (Hanes) Young. He was a member of Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church, Sutherland’s River. Wayne was a career truck driver, having been employed with Eastern Transport for 23 years and retiring in 2013 from Armour Transportation after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow. Wayne served with the Linacy Fire Department for 39 years. He enjoyed hockey and was an avid Montreal Canadians fan. In earlier years, he was an accomplished dart player, having played in many tournaments. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Peggy (Jenkins) Young; daughter, Lori Young-Martell; son, Bruce (Tanya), Linacy; grandchildren, Devon, Taylor, Rhéa, Chloe, Luc and Kaitlyn; sister, Carol Ann (Donnie) MacDonald, Big Island Road; brother, Robert (Betty) Young, Hopewell; former daughter-in-law, Ginette Samson, Chance Harbour; former son-in-law, Ken Martell, Scotsburn; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Helen Young; nephew, Stephen MacDonald; sister-in-law, Donna Young; cousin, Isabel Hopkins.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will follow in Telford Cemetery.
