The death occurred at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, of Wendell James Maynard of Birch Hill, aged 87, beloved husband of Blanche (nee MacDougall). Wendell was born in O’Leary on March 1, 1927, son of the late John L and Minnie (Sproule) Maynard. Dear father to: Marilyn (Gerry) McQuaid, Grand River; Marlene (Michael) Toole, Clyde River; John , Birch Hill; Warren (Karla), Cole Harbour, N.S.; father-in-law to Brenda Worth and Nancy Cooke. Loving grandfather to Bryon Maynard (Ashley Dawson), Kyle (Krista) Maynard, Patrick (Julie) McQuaid, Garrett (Alana) Toole, Evan (Robyn) Toole, Sarah Maynard, Ellen Toole, Emma McQuaid, Mitchell Maynard, Kathy Anne Maynard, Paige Maynard, Abby McQuaid and Daniel Maynard, and to great-grandchildren Kate and Brynnley Maynard. Wendell is also survived by sisters in law Doris Maynard, Summerside and Isabel MacKinnon, Stephenville Crossing, NL. He was predeceased by his parents, son Kent, brother Earle, sisters Marjorie MacKay and Audrey Waugh. Resting at the Ferguson Tyne Valley Funeral Chapel with visiting hours Monday, Aug. 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. at Lot 14 United Church, Birch Hill. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. In memory of Wendell, memorials to Lot 14 United Church or Prince County Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
