Paul J. Baranyl

Born In: Hungary

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: August 24th, 2014

After a brief illness, Paul Baranyi, a wonderful husband and a good friend, passed away peacefully, with his wife Vera by his side, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014. He was a long time resident of Sydney until his recent admission to the MacGillivray Guest Home.
Paul was born in Hungary and was the son of the late Blaizs and Theresa (Molnar) Baranyi.
He is survived by his wife Vera, in Sydney and one niece and nephew in Hungary.
Paul trained as a professional photographer, working first with the Hungarian Air Force and later opened a private studio in his home town. An avid sports fan, he played professional soccer in the goalie position in his native country. Following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, Paul took a difficult and often dangerous journey and arrived in Sydney in September of 1957.
Shortly after his arrival, Paul found employment with Abbass Studios. He worked as a professional photographer and retouching specialist until his retirement. During his career he received many awards and recognitions for outstanding work. Not long after settling here, Paul was introduced to a talented woman, Vera also a Hungarian immigrant. They soon became the love of each other’s lives. This love was shared in a marriage lasting over 55 years.
While Paul took photography seriously and deeply loved Vera, he had a passion for soccer. Drawing on his past experience, he became a soccer coach in Sydney. His coaching success peaked when two teams he coached finished first and second in their division – the first time ever!
Vera wishes to acknowledge the care given by Dr. Glen Worth, the friendship of wonderful Hardwood Hill neighbours, the support of many close friends and loving care by the staff of MacGillivray Guest Home. They all have been a source of strength, much appreciated and will not be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, Rev. Paul Murphy will officiate. Reception will follow at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
