Ralph Mersereau

MERSEREAU, RALPH GORDON - Ralph Gordon Mersereau passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014, after ten weeks of bravely fighting the effects of a traumatic neck and spinal cord injury. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marion (nee Queen), his sons Norm (Sharon) and Ron (Susan) both of Hoyt, NB and Nathan (Michelle) of Detroit, Michigan; daughters Kathy Wright of Saint John, NB and Susanne Evans (Galen) of Acworth, Georgia; grandchildren Alanna Cornish (Brian), Cindy, Peter, Diana, Justin, Rachel and Allison; great grandchildren Brady and Emily; his sister Madeline Charlton and many extended family members. His parents Raymond and Elsie Mersereau (Kirkpatrick), brothers Lawrence and Kenneth, sisters Gertrude Charlton and Anne McCluskey and son-in-law Peter Wright have passed on. Ralph was born in Hoyt, NB on June 10, 1928 and lived there all his life. Ralph loved his family, friends, community and church. He had a tireless work ethic, an optimistic outlook on life and was always looking ahead to his next project. With an eighth grade education Ralph used rugged determination and hard work to become a prominent businessman. He and Marion founded Ralph’s Transport Ltd in Hoyt and grew it to a fleet of 14 trucks, all while raising their family. After selling his company for a second time, he built sub-divisions, ran heavy equipment, bought and sold vehicles and worked on numerous projects with energy and enthusiasm. He loved meeting people and developed many friendships around the world. He travelled extensively to locations throughout the Caribbean and Europe and enjoyed spending winters in Florida. During his travels, he consistently kept in touch with family and friends. He enjoyed attending gospel music festivals and was an active and faithful member of Calvary Pentecostal Lighthouse. He would not hesitate to tell others about his faith in God and his love for his family. He will be missed by all, but left a shining example of someone who lived his life to honor God, loved his family, remembered his roots and lived life to the fullest.
