Ronald Edward Lowe
Ronald Lowe of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on August 22, 2014 at Moose Jaw Extendicare, at the age of 70 years. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Lowe in 1944, step-father Louis Bjornson in 1999 and brother-in-law Les Markuson in 2006. Ron is survived by his mother, Edna Bjornson, sister Joan (Tony) Duhaime, and brother Rick (Leila) Bjornson, as well as nieces and nephews: Kurt Markuson, Kristine (Aaron) Lyall, Arielle Bjornson and Conner Bjornson. Ron was born in Moose Jaw, SK on September 25, 1943 to Edward and Edna Lowe. After his mother’s marriage to Louis Bjornson in 1951 he moved to the Bjornson farm in the Scout Lake area. He graduated from Rockglen School and attended university in Saskatoon. It was while at university that he fell in love with journalism. He worked at various radio/TV stations in Regina, Lethbridge, Sudbury, Hamilton, and most recently CHAB in Moose Jaw. For a brief period he left broadcasting and owned a travel agency and a pizza business. Later he returned to radio/TV as an instructor of journalism at Seneca College in Toronto where he had a hand in molding many of the broadcasters you see on Canadian TV today. Ron enjoyed travelling. He spent a six month sabbatical touring Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia and many summers house sitting in Bermuda. It was here that his passion for sailing began. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Moose Jaw. Special thanks to LaVerne Lenius for her friendship and support over the years. A Memorial Service will be held at Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Dermody officiating. Urn Bearer will be Conner Bjornson. Interment will take place at Grand Valley Cemetery, Scout Lake, SK. Donations may be made in Ron’s memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund – Moose Jaw Branch or to Grand Valley Lutheran Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.rossfuneralservice.com.
