Gerald Illsley

ILLSLEY, Gerald William- aged 83, passed away on August 21, 2014 with his family by his side. Born November 25, 1930 in North Williamston, Gerald was the son of the late William and Ruth (Sellers) Illsley. He most recently resided in Middleton with his wife Belinda and their beloved dog, Daisy. Gerald owned gravel trucks with which he sanded and spread chloride for the Department of Highways and lead a crew working in the woods for Minas Basin Pulp & Power. In later years Gerald did front-end alignments. Gerald enjoyed square dancing regularly where he met Belinda Robar, his wife of 15 years. For over 30 years Gerald was very involved with the Lawrencetown Exhibition Youth Arena and was an active charter member of the Lawrencetown District Lion's Club. He most recently enjoyed spending time at the Adult Day Care at NSCC. In addition to his loving wife, Belinda (Robar), he is survived by sons, Laurie (Wilma) North Williamston, Reg, Wilmot; Walter (Dale) South Williamston, daughters Sue (Keith) McLearn, Kinsac; Wendy (Dave) Owen, North Williamston and Lisa (Richard)Taylor, Lawrencetown; step-children Franklyn (Morna) Robar, Middleton; Billy (Jeannie)Robar, Paradise and Wanda Robar (Walter MacKinnon), Georgetown, ON, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Gerald is also survived by siblings Joyce, Jean, Nancy, Fred, Frank and brother-in-law, Doug D’Aubin and his family. Gerald was predeceased by his parents and his first wife of 40 years Betty (Hame) and siblings Freda, Gordon, Charlie and David. Gerald will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, his generosity of whiskey and his ability to regale tales of yesteryear. He was always very happy to spend time at his cottage on Trout Lake surrounded by his loved ones. The family would like to thank the nurses of the Transitional Care Unit at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their care of Gerald in his final days. Visitation was held Sunday, August 24, 2014, it began with a Lions Tribute Service in the Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448 where the funeral service was held Monday, August 25, 2014 with Rev. Patty Beals officiating. Interment be in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to a Charity of Choice.
