VINK, JOHANNES "JOHN" QUIRINUS - At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on August 25, 2014, Mr. Johannes "John" Quirinus Vink, husband of Mrs. Evelyn (Smith) Vink of Deer Island NB and formerly of Fredericton NB. Born in Holland on March 23, 1922, he was a son of the late Jeroen and Wilhelmina (Pirovano) Vink. A loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, step-grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife, Evelyn, he is survived by sons, Jerry (Evelyn) Vink and John (Pat) Vink; daughter-in-law, Alicia Vink; step-children, Glenn (Amanda) Cook, Robert (Inika) Cook, David Cook, Eugene Cook, Brenda (Harry) Proffit, Denise (Tom) Hendershot, Leigh (Susan) Cline, Wilfred (Sharon) Cline and Maurice (Katya) Cline; sisters, Anne (John), Rene and Rikee; brother, Job (Ria); and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by one son, Theo Vink; sisters, Else and Corie; brothers, Jaques, René and Johan. John came to Canada in 1968 from Holland and worked as an Electrical Engineer. He graduated, on the Dean's List, from St. Thomas University at age 75, receiving his Masters Degree in Religious Studies. John loved reading, dancing, singing, travel, Church and spending time with his grandchildren, who knew him as a great story teller, especially the stories of his life during World War II. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40, St. George, the Masonic Lodge F&AM # 12, St. George, the Order of the Eastern Star, Granite Chapter # 15, St. George and an active member of the St. George's Catholic Church, where he was a member of the choir.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the St. George's Catholic Church on Friday at 11:00 am. The interment will be held at the Hermitage Cemetery, Fredericton NB on Friday at 3:00 pm. A Masonic and OES Tribute Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 5:45 pm. In John's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
