Albert Anatole 'Sonny' Blois

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: August 25th, 2014

It is with saddened hearts we announce the unexpected passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Sonny passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Albert and Yvonne (Lalin) Blois and was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Glace Bay.
Sonny was very proud of his time served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Regiment. After returning home from his time served overseas, he moved to Ontario where he was employed at a Ford plant. He later returned to his home town of Glace Bay and started his mining career at the Four Star Colliery in Broughton and later transferred to the Dominion Coal Co. foundry where he worked as a moulder, from 1957 until its closure in 1985. He enjoyed sports; he was a playing coach for the New Comers hockey team in the 80s and was a die-hard Habs fan. He was a wonderful gardener and truly enjoyed his times spent preparing the soil and growing vegetables and flowers for over 57 years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his faithful K9 companion “Kissy” and his visits and conversations with his brothers. He will be remembered as a quiet man who kept to himself, who could turn his hand to any task and succeed. He was a true family man, and for them, he was their rock.
Sonny will be sadly missed by his loving wife Leone (Durant); daughter, Charlene (Gerard) Blois, River Ryan; grandchildren, Erica Stevens, Lower Sackville, Devin Blois, River Ryan; great-granddaughter, Fallyn Stevens, Lower Sackville; sisters, Muriel Hankins, USA, Virginia Getz, Simone MacLeod, both of Glace Bay, Camille (Roddy) McDougall, Alberta; brothers, Raymond, Glace Bay, Eugene, Sydney, George (Margaret), Margaree, Adrian (Debbie), Glace Bay; numerous, nieces, nephews and friends.
In honouring Sonny’s wishes there will be no visitation.
Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Donations in Sonny’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
At this time we would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Harless and his team at the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
