Soeur Irene Larose- [Sr. Arthur Marie]: Sister Irene Larose passed away at Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home, Ponteix, Saskatchewan on August 16, 2014. Prayer Service was held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church with celebrant, Father Guy Amedee Ainemon. The Interment Service was held at Ponteix Parish Cemetery. Irene was born on November 25th, 1930 to Anney and Pierre Larose in their home in McCord, Saskatchewan under the vigilant care of Mrs. Angelina Nogue, midwife. She did her schooling in the surrounding country schools until she decided to become a Sister in the Congregation of Notre-Dame d'Auvergne in Ponteix. There she finished her grades while doing her Novitiate, a special preparation towards making freely and soundly the religious vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience which she solemnly pronounced August 22nd, 1949. From Sept. 1949 to June 1951, she taught grades 3&4 in our Private Convent. From Sept, 1951 to spring 1954 she joined Sr. Marie-Paule Béliveau (Marie de la providence) to attend Misericordia Nursing School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. January 1954 she received the "Typical Misericordia Nurse Award, graduated with honours in the Spring of 1954. Now having her Nursing Degree Sr. Irene was assigned the Matron responsibility of the Gabriel Private Hospital under the devoted direction of Dr. J. Strohhopher for the next ten years. Then she attended the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree. From 1966 until 1970 she continued her Nursing Career in Notre-Dame Hospital in Zénon Parc, Saskatchewan. At this time her health was diminishing drastically. She asked for a sabbatical year at St Pauls University in Ottawa, Ontario. It was there that she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Her Nursing Career was now hampered but her desire to live to the best of her ability led her to take a course on tropical medicine and so from 1972 until 1976 she helped the sick in Guémé, North Cameroon and from 1976 until 1979 in Zambia with the White Missionary Sisters of Africa. In Sept. 1980 she accompanied Sr. Kathleen who was doing Pastoral Ministry in St. Luke's Parish in Calgary, Alberta while she did part time nursing at Foothills Hospital. In the fall of 1981 she was approached by the Bishop of Calgary if she would accept the responsibility of Co-ordinator of the RC chaplaincy of Foothills Hospital. She assumed this Ministry whole heartedly till July 1987. Irene was a very special person. She was blessed with a joyful, attaching personality, combined with a selfless, compassionate heart. She spent her life easing the suffering in mind and body of each one she came in contact with. From 1987 to 2003 she took residence in Saskatoon. Her Nursing career was now wholly transformed into volunteer Pastoral Visitation, Communion Ministry, helping young University girls boarding at 405, Participating with the Parkinson Support Group, as well as volunteering in one of Dr. Rajput's Research Project. In the midst of all this selfless giving she was and remained always very much a family girl, faithful to her Religious Community life and for us, sisters and brothers so very generous in loving attention and care whenever she could. In January of 2003 she comes home to Ponteix with the core Community where she stands as a model of courage and serene acceptance. By Sept. 2011 she is ready for the Foyer. She says calmly to Janice who interviews her "I move on to another Stage in my life." She now daily lives out this Prayer of Saint Ignatius De Loyola. Take Lord, receive all my liberty, my memory, understanding, my entire will. Give me only your love and your grace. That's enough for me. Take Lord, receive all I have and possess. You have given all to me. Now I return it. Give me your love and your grace, That's enough for me. Thank you, Irene! Aurevoir! Lemieux Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
