WATSON, PHILIP ERNEST - 1926 - 2014 - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Philip "Phil" Watson, loving husband of 68 years to Elva Watson (Dunn), announce his passing. At Bobby’s Hospice on Sunday, August 31, 2014 surrounded by his loving family, Phil went to be with his Lord and Savior. Born in Saint John on November 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Damie Watson (Barton). In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by son Ronald (Vickey) and daughter Joanne Coughlan (Tom) both of Saint John; grandchildren Scott of Hampton, Rhonda of Oakville, On, Robin, Jason and Jennifer all of Saint John; great-grandchildren Robert, Stephanie, Tori, Taylor, Kayleigh, Kennedy, Kaiden, Harlow, Joshua, Alexis, Grace and Jacob; sister Ethel Fulton of Saint John and several nieces, nephews and friends. Phil was predeceased by his parents; sisters Julia, Mabel, Ella May, Jenny, Marion and Kay; brothers Joe, Ed, Hector and Charlie. As a youth he was active in Scouts Canada and was a member of Rodney Sea Cadets. He worked at Saint John Shipbuilding and the Port of Saint John. He was a member of Shipbuilding Local 3 and the International Longshoreman’s Association Local 273. Phil loved life to the fullest and was a hard worker. He especially enjoyed his weekends at his summer camp in Cumberland Bay where he spent a lot of time working outside and hunting. He loved being with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether it was attending their many social and sporting activities or just relaxing at home with them.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Tuesday, September 2nd from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Phil’s life will be take place on Wednesday, September 3rd at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Interment will be at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Donations in Phil’s memory may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church or to Bobby’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
