Passed away peacefully at the Dr. L. A. Miller Centre in his hometown, St. John's, aged 82, after stoically and resolutely living with kidney cancer since July 2011, the only son of Florence Louise McLeod (1893 - 1990) and James Francis Fitzpatrick (1878 - 1955). Leaving to mourn his devoted wife of 56 years, Thelma (Noel), four sons and daughters-in-law Laurence and Mary (Scaplen), Kelligrews, Paul and Gail (Kenny), Topsail, Christopher and Melanie (Frost), St. John's, and Andrew and Tracey (Primmer), Paris, France; only daughter and son-in-law Suzanne Fitzpatrick and Charlie Sauer, St. John's; grandchildren Laurence (Tiffany Fagan), Lisa (Andrew Murphy), Liam, Grace and Sophie Fitzpatrick, Cody, Emma and Elía Sauer, Ashley Frost and Thompson Octavious; great-granddaughter Jenna Fitzpatrick; only sibling Agnes Elizabeth (Betty) Fitzpatrick; brothers and sisters-in-law Joe and Emma, Carbonear; Leslie and Lillian (Froude), St. John's; Pat and Betty (Perry), Freshwater, C. B., and Gilbert and Gillian Noel, Carbonear; a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews; friends; and Horse Chops cabin neighbours. Predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law Ted and Mabel, Roy and Floss, Dot and Marie Noel, and Ina Taylor. Jim was raised in Georgetown, St. John's, attending Bond Street School and Bishop Feild College. He spent 8 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, worked at William Pound Agencies, Gaden's Limited, and was an aircraft maintenance engineer with Government Air Services (1975 - 1992). He was an avid outdoorsman and loved salmon fishing in Biscay Bay River, partridge shooting on the Flakey Downs, trouting, and spending time at the cabin on Trainor's Valley Road, Horse Chops. Visitation at Barrett's Funeral Home, Hamilton Avenue on Tuesday, September 2 and Wednesday, September 3 from 2 - 9 p.m. In keeping with his request for an Irish wake, please join Jim's family to celebrate his life on Thursday, September 4 at 5 p.m. at Clovelly Golf Club. Internment in Freshwater United Cemetery, Carbonear on Friday, September 5 at 2 p.m. No flowers by request.
