It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Annie Josephine Spencer (nee Hogan) on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mom is now smiling and pain free in the arms of her greatest love, holding her tight….
Annie was a homemaker all of her life, she raised her six children with compassion and love. Her life was spent caring for others and her home was always filled with love and laughter; especially with the presence of her 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Annie’s greatest love was her family.
She is survived by her children, Joseph (Norma) Spencer, Alphonse (Noel) Spencer, Tommy (Anita) Spencer, Ann Marie (Junior) MacKeigan with whom she resided the past 10 years, Debbie (Blair) Frison and Veronica (Alfred) Frison. Also surviving are her grandson, Billy (Millie) Bates, who she raised as her own; siblings, Veronica MacIntyre, Paul Hogan and special niece, Brenda Horne.
Annie was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Edward ‘Pee Wee’ Spencer; brothers, Al, Joe, Peter and her niece, Mary Sparrow.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel followed by interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
As an expression of sympathy for Annie, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke foundation or palliative care.
