FISCHER, PETER - Peter Fischer of Fredericton passed away peacefully on September 1, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, surrounded in his final moments, as he was in his life, by people who loved him. His spirit and joy for life will always be remembered by his wife, Debbie, his mother Gisela Felsberg of Vilna, AB, his sisters Manuela Felsberg and Donna Trudeau and especially by the children, stepchildren and grandchildren he loved so much: Preston Smith (Andrea), Jonathan Fischer, Lindsay Fischer, Sarah Fischer and their mother, Sharon Charters, Robert Wilson (Nathalie) and Rebecca Geburt (Philip). Being a grandfather was something Peter loved and he would have loved to have had more time with Dylan, Tyler, Aidan, Abby, Cameron, Zoe and Samuel. His memory will always be cherished by his mother-in-law and friend, Helen Ball and sister and brother-in-law Susan and Gary Nelson. His 25 year career at Fredericton Transit was a source of pride and accomplishment for him and brought so many wonderful people into his life; passengers during his driving days and fellow employees alike. Always happiest and most at ease with a paddle in his hands, in a canoe on any river he and his canoe buddies, Dick, Marc, Danielle, Richard and Arnie could access, Peter found peace on the water. It is said that in life you are lucky if you have five good and trusted friends. Peter had so many more than that. He loved and was loved. The last eight months of Peter's life were spent in 4SE at the DECRH, where he brought the entire nursing staff into his extended family. He loved them all. Dr. Pniak and Dr. Gowan provided support and care above and beyond what was required through Peter's journey and Dr. Cheryl Rushton gave her time, her talent, her knowledge and her love to Peter and all his family. There are not enough words to say thank you to these incredible people.
Peter chose to be cremated and asked not to have visitation or a funeral service. There will be a Peter style party at a later date. For now, his ashes will float down the St. Croix one more time in his canoe. This time the paddle will be in other hands and the breeze he loved in his face will carry him to rest one last time.
