Yesterday, Robert’s wish finally came through, as he joined the love of his life, wife and best friend, Geraldine. Robert passed away, after a short illness at the Glace Bay Hospital on Sept. 2, 2014, with his family at his side.
Born in Whitehead, Guysborough County, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Casey) Spears.
As a lighthouse keeper, Robert spent time on Flint Island, Scatarie Island, Forchu Light, Eddy Point in Mulgrave and Whitehead Light. Prior to his position with the Canadian Coast Guard he was a fisherman.
Left to mourn are his daughter, Lana (Charles); son, Bobby (Melinda); grandchildren; Angie, Tiffany and BJ, two great-grandchildren, Kailey and Logan. Also surviving are his sisters, Bertha, Loretta and Doris; brother, Howard.
Besides his parents and wife, Geraldine, Robert was predeceased by sisters, Margaret, Frances, Lucy, Annie, Georgina; brothers, Alvin, Freddy, Ralph and George.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home,16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
