Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: August 29th, 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of John Edward Turnbull.
John was born on Dec. 26, 1954 in Glace Bay, N.S.. A long time resident of Dominion, John battled cancer for ten months until his death on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014. His passing came while being treated at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. He passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends.
Throughout his lifetime John struck a balance between family, friends, a career with DEVCO, the Dominion Fire Department, a passion for playing baseball and broomball, coaching, and time riding his Harley. Although his first love was always his family, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time riding his bike with his wife Marlene or with his many friends from the Red Knights MC. In fact, he enjoyed riding so much that he would polish his bike nearly every day while waiting for the long winter to end and for bike season to begin.
John is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; his sons, John Francis and Ryan; his daughter-in-law, Angie and his two grandchildren, Cassidy (Poppy’s Girl) and William (his little man.) He is also survived by his sisters Catherine, Florence, Mabel, Agnes, Dorothy, Mary and Carole as well as his brother, Conway and his wife, Jackie.
Of his large family he was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Florence; his brothers, John, Francis, Gerald, Edward, Patty, as well as two brothers in infancy – Fabian and Harvey. He was also predeceased by sisters, Annie and Loretta.
While his family was exceptionally large, he managed to maintain a close relationship with his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Of his many relatives, he had a very special place in his heart for his nieces, Gigi Mackenzie and Tammy Mackenzie (Cameron).
John’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the many friends and family members that have been supportive throughout this difficult time. They would also like to thank Dr. Harless, Dr. Giorno and the staff at Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all of their tireless and compassionate care.
Visitation will commence at Currie’s Funeral Home 775 Main St., Glace Bay on Thursday, Sept. 4th From 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church Bridgeport, on Friday, Sept. 5th commencing at 11 a.m. with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Following funeral services there will be a reception held at Dominion Fire Hall located on Duggan St in Dominion, N.S.
