Passed away, Tuesday, September 2nd 2014, at her home in Chapel's Cove after a courageous battle with cancer, Eleanor (Lena) Frances Griffis, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and devoted friend, aged 55 years. She is predeceased by her mother and father, John and Pauline Hawco, and Brother Cyril Fewer. Left with fond and loving memories, Loving and devoted Husband, Gary, aka "Her Rock", her children, Melissa Seward (Robert), Adam Walsh (Megan), her step-children Laura Dicks (Andrew) and Gary Griffis Jr. (Sylvie); Her Grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Brianna and Sara, and soon to arrive baby girl Seward. Brother Dominic Hawco (Nancy) and sister Loretta Jones. Special family and friends, Violet Hall and her daughters Marie and Marguerite, David and Marlene Young, Carla Barnes, Doris and Ian Stevenson, Edith Linehan, Debbie and Leo Puddicombe, Louis,Ruby & Perry Stevenson and Joe Walsh (father of Melissa and Adam). As well as a large circle of nieces and nephews. Lena leaves a huge legacy with us all. Her smile was infectious, and her laughter lit up the darkest of rooms. She was insightful, optimistic and creative, she was gentle and generous, friendly and forgiving. She was hard-working and helpful, patient and polite. But above all She was a fighter, she was tough, she was courageous and she was determined. Lena was living proof that the love conquers all, and it was this belief, along with her passion for life, that held the hands of her family and friends as they held hers during this time. A special thanks to Dr.Russell & Carol Ann Lake, and Kenneth Dunphy for their compassion, help and guidance through her final months. Visitation will take place at Dunphys Funeral Home, Holyrood, on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 7 - 9 pm & Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 2 - 4 pm & 7 - 9 pm with a Memorial Service at 8 pm in Dunphy's Chapel. Inurnment will take place at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations in her memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
