It is with great sadness that we announce that on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, Leo passed away peacefully at home while being attended to by his wife Sylvie 'Powie' Scott.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sylvia 'Powie' Scott; daughter, Michele Viau of Ottawa; son, Raymond Scott of Ottawa and four grandchildren, Luc Viau, Paige Viau, Emma Scott and Noah Scott.
Born in Glace Bay, Leo is the son of the late Alec Scott and late Julie (O'Toole) Scott.
Also surviving are five siblings, Moe Scott, Toronto, Mike Scott, Toronto, Charles 'Cheech' Scott, St. Catherines, Cathy Scott, Boston and Bob Worthington, Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by sisters, Anne Holloran and Margaret 'Margie' Scott, St. Catherines.
Leo moved from Cape Breton to Toronto where he held various jobs including plumbing for 13 years. Upon receiving news of his ailing father-in-law, Leo returned the family to Cape Breton in 1979. Leo was a coal miner for many years. As a member of the Army/Navy/Airforce, he played and coached the men’s lob ball team for 15 years. He also created and coached a women’s team for a number of those years.
Following his retirement from mining, Leo took the role as bartender at the Army/Navy/Airforce in Glace Bay. A position previously held by his late father-in-law, Luke Larade. During this time he was instrumental in starting the men’s pool league and organizing many trips for tournaments. In 2013 he won the pool championship and he continued to bartend until Dec. 2013. He was awarded a lifetime membership by the executive in 2014.
The family would like to thank the VON and palliative care as well as Arlene and Alan Foley for all their support.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. No visitation or funeral mass.
There will be a private celebration of life at a later date as per Leo’s wishes.
