It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Mullins. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Whitney Pier, Bill was the eldest son of Clarence and Esther (Pike) Mollons.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Eleanor (Sheppard) Mullins and his three children: sons, Bill (Doris) and Robbie (Helen) and daughter, Laurie (Ron MacIntosh). Bill is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan Mullins (Lindsay), Nicole Mullins (Matthew), Warren Mullins, Mark Mullins (Erin), Ranee MacIntosh and Connor MacIntosh, as well as two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Skylar Mullins. Also surviving are Bill’s brothers, Hayward, Winnipeg and Clyde, Sydney and his sister, Elizabeth 'Betty' Brown. Left to mourn as well are brother-in-law, Kenneth (Winnie) Sheppard, London, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Horst) Ammonn, London, Ont. and Florence Hayes, Sydney and life-long friend, Maurice Antonello.
Besides his parents, Clarence and Esther, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Lillian Flood; brothers-in-law, Joe Brown, Jackie Flood and Thomas Hayes; sisters-in-law, Gertie Mollons and Adele Mollons. He was also predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Ken and Mary.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hewlett and the wonderful nurses at the Renal Dialysis Unit for their care during the past three years, as well as Dr. Puppala, Dr. Myatt and the conscientious nurses in 4A and palliative care.
Bill worked in industrial supplies most of his career, retiring from Seaboard Industrial in 1995. In his younger years, he loved to fish and hunt. He and Eleanor were the best "jitter-buggers" east of Montreal. Bill was an intelligent, articulate man with a keen interest in politics, world affairs and always up for a lively debate. A life-long "Tory ", Bill worked tirelessly for the party. He was awarded "Volunteer of the Year Award" in recognition of his volunteer work by the Premier of Nova Scotia in 2004. In his later years, Bill enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teaching many life lessons and creating lasting memories for them.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Whitney Pier at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Following the service, a light lunch will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church Hall. Interment to follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to St. Alban’s Anglican Church.
