Sophie Presley
August 19, 1923 – September 4, 2014
Sophie Presley, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away at Providence Place on September 4, 2014. Predeceased by her husband, Ed, in 2001, her parents, a sister and brother, she is survived by her dear sister, Rose Fritz, her son, Jerry Phillips (Glenna), daughter, Ethel Kaiser (Robert), three granddaughters, one grandson, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Ed’s son, Earl (Wendy) and other family members. Mom was always so caring and interested in her whole family. She never failed to send a birthday card and cash for birthdays and Christmas along with a phone call. We all marvelled at her generosity. She attended family weddings and university graduations even though her children and grandchildren lived in Thunder Bay and Vancouver Island. She worked at Eaton’s for thirty-five years. Managing the catalogue department and being human resources manager were very rewarding to her. Despite having serious health problems, Mom lived independently in her home until six years ago when she moved into Providence Place. Thank you to the compassionate staff in St. Anthony Wing for the care and understanding she received over the past six years, especially Brenda Hartley (retired), and her nurses, Carol and Corry, as well as Dr. Dautremont. All the support she received from her dear friends, Maxine Jones, Hildegard Anderson and Gail and Orris Mikuliak meant so much to Mom and her family and brought her great comfort.
We will all remember her sweet smile.
Following a family graveside service, a Tea to remember Sophie will be held at Jones Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St.E., on Saturday, September 13 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations made to Providence Place Foundation, would be greatly appreciated. In living memory of Sophie, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
