Mom passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at St. Vincent’s Guest Home in Halifax.
Born on Oct. 18, 1923, in Sydney, Ollie was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary (Herald) Gillespie.
She was predeceased by her husband, James F. 'Fred' Gillam; son, Robert 'Bob' Gillam; sisters, Frances Butler, Julia Decker and Evelyn Hillier; and brothers, Fred and Henry Gillespie.
Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Gillam-Locke (Don Locke), Halifax; sister, Ethel Callaghan, Sydney; grandson, James Gillam (Annette), Toronto; granddaughter, Rebecca Hiltz-LeBlanc (Mitch) and great-grandson, Luc LeBlanc, Halifax; and several nieces and nephews.
More than 50 years ago, Ollie was a founding member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Guild and was awarded a lifetime membership for her longtime service and dedication to the church. She loved making crafts, knitting, cooking and last, but not least, she loved playing cards, especially tarabish and 45s.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Anglican Church of Christ the King on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Laura McCue officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the Anglican Church of Christ the King Ladies Guild or the Alzheimer Society.
