Murray Garnett

GARNETT, MURRAY - Murray Garnett, husband of Marjorie Ruth passed away peacefully on September 10, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on October 14, 1924, in Saint John he was a son of the late Daniel Maines and Laura Freda (McArthur) Garnett. Throughout his life, Murray was a member of the Canadian Forces during World War II. He was a part of the liberation of Holland and a proud member of the Black Watch. He worked many years for the City of Saint John then moving on to the International Harvester. Murray had a love for vehicles and worked as an Auto Mechanic with White Motors before going to work for himself. He served as a past president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14 and was a Past Chancellor for the Knights of Pythius DOKK #147. Murray was an avid Golfer and in the latter part of his life, he enjoyed meeting up with his friends of the “Bing Boys” group. Murray will be survived and sadly missed by his two sons, Murray James Jr (Lenora) and Gerald (Jean) both of Saint John. Brothers; David (Bernice) of Garnett Settlement and Larry (Beverly) of Ontario. Sisters; Louise Hewitt of Saint John and Donna Garnett of Alberta. Murray will also be remembered by his three grandchildren; Tara (Jeremy), Keith (Heather) and Kevin (fiancé Kathleen). Besides his parents, Murray is predeceased by his two brothers Douglas and Gregory and sisters; Blanche Flewelling, Dorothy Thompson and Patsy Belding.
Arrangements are under the professional care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd, with visiting hours on Saturday, September 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Tribute to a Veteran service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday September 15 at 1:00PM from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations in memory of Murray may be made towards the Heart and Stroke Foundation and or the donor’s choice.
