George Fidyk
May 8, 1924 – September 11, 2014

George Fidyk of Prince Albert, SK passed away with his wife at his side at Victoria Hospital after a long battle with cancer on September 11, 2014. George was born May 8, 1924 in Silver Park, SK and in 1934 moved with his parents and two sisters to Albertville, SK. He attended Emilbury School. As an only son, he was a great help to his Dad with farming, which he eventually took over. In October 1952, he married Rose Renkas and they farmed many years until, due to ill health, George retired. He was a man of strong sense of ethics, boundless patience and optimism. He was a self-taught mechanic, carpenter and welder. He had a knack of bringing ideas to fruition, many used to build his drill press, cut-off saw and fertilizer bander. Each accomplishment gave him more incentive to go on to another project. One of his proud accomplishments was overhauling a diesel tractor successfully. He was happiest when he was immersed in a carpentry project building kitchen cabinets for many in the area, welding, or doing mechanical repairs for himself or for his neighbors. In 1995, the City of Prince Albert became their new home. During retirement years, he loved to travel to the U.S., Ontario and western provinces. He liked coffeeing and visiting at McDonald’s and the Casino where he made many friends. George is survived by his wife Rose of nearly 62 years; his sister Anne Urban; his nieces and nephews Eileen (Helmut) Weber, John (Lily) Urban, George (Linda) Urban, Corlene (Tom) Brundage and numerous great nieces and nephews; his wife’s siblings Annette Muntain, Pauline Stankowski, Ed (Eileen) Renkas, Mike (Linda) Rankas, and Leonard (Ellen) Renkas. He was predeceased by his parents William and Mary Fidyk; sister Jean Hryhor; brothers-in-law Peter Urban and John Hryhor; his parents-in-law Joseph and Nettie Renkas; brother-in-law David Renkas; sister-in-law Marie McKenna; wife’s brothers-in-law Don Muntain and Frank Stankowski; wife’s nephew Byron McKenna. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 589– 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Dennis Serfas, Director Spiritual Care, Prince Albert Parkland Health Region officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Victoria Hospital Palliative Care 5th Floor.
