Charles Cook

COOK, CHARLES F. - Charles F. Cook, 88, of the Veterans’ Health Centre and formerly of Riverview, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, September 12, 2014. Born in Cookville, he was the son of the late Norman and Gertrude (George) Cook. Charles was a retired Registered Professional Forester and NB Land Surveyor. He was a member of Upper Sackville United Church and attended Trinity United Church, Riverview. Charles was a Veteran of WWII, having served overseas as a pilot with the R.C.A.F. and the RNAS. He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Yale University School of Forestry and the University of Maine (Orono). His degrees were in Forestry, Forestry Engineering, Forest Management and Forest Land Appraisal. In 1965, he became the youngest Chief Forester in Canada. He was very much an outdoors person, had a passion for flying, enjoyed travelling, RV’ing, skating, dancing (round and square), time spent at Parlee Beach in the summer and winters in Florida (Largo); but first and foremost was spending precious time with his family and friends. Charles will be sadly missed by his wife, Belva “Betty” (Kinnie) Cook; sons, Gary (Pat) of Sussex, Michael (Ann) of French Lake and Stephen (Beth) of Truro, NS; grandchildren, Mathew, Trevor and Olivia; great grandchildren, Emma, Callie and Wyatt; stepson, Alan Slater (Cheryl) of Moncton and step grandchildren, Christopher and Cara. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Slack) Cook (1987); son Norman (2014) and sister, Audrey. Special thanks to the Doctor’s and Staff at the Veterans’ Health Centre for their love and care given to Charles during his stay. “You truly were Charlie’s Angels.”
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 11:00 am till 12:45 pm followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating. Moncton Legion Branch #6 Veterans’ Service will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home on Tuesday at 1:00 pm. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment, Cookville Cemetery. In memory of Charles, donations to the Cookville Cemetery Fund, the Veterans’ Health Centre or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences at
