It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley ‘Stan’ Michael Orychock on Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, with his intimate friend, Julie Pritchard, by his side.
Born in Sydney, Stan was the son of Mary (Gaetan) and the late Stanley Francis Orychock.
Stan was raised in Whitney Pier, Cape Breton. He attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish and Memorial University of Newfoundland. He studied English literature and achieved a Bachelor of Education. He spent over 20 years in the Public Service of Canada working with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Stan was a lover of music, books and all forms of entertainment. He amassed a considerable collection of music and had a particular knack for matching one’s interests with books, music, television shows and movies. Stan will be remembered by family and friends for being generous, considerate and very kind; a true gentleman.
Besides his intimate friend, Julie, Stan leaves behind his mother, Mary (Gaetan) Orychock; sister, Diane (Neil) MacKenzie and their three sons, Neil (Dawn), Robert (Melissa) and Michael (Kursten); grandniece, Jenna; two grandnephews, Jacob and Hayes; as well as several aunts and cousins.
Stan was predeceased by his father, Stanley Francis Orychock and infant sister, Brenda Orychock.
Memorial service to celebrate the life of Stanley ‘Stan’ Michael Orychock will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Stan may be made to Cancer Research Society.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
