It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Illsley Holt at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Friday, Sept. 12, 2014.
Born in Canning, N.S. in 1924 Malcolm was the son of the late Richard and Laura Holt.
He moved to Cape Breton in 1955 and was employed in the construction industry until his early retirement due to an injury on the job.
Mac was a kind and generous person with a great sense of humour and loved to tell stories of his younger years growing up in the Annapolis Valley.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ball (nee Gallivan); daughter, Ann (Alfred) Nikolai; sisters, Valerie, Marion (Randell), Shirley; brother, Darrell (Elaine); grandchildren, Tanya and Chris, Ian and Allie; great-grandchildren, Cassie, Jordan and Aaliyah; sister-in-law, Gertrude; step-grandchildren, David and Angela Gaudet; along with several nieces and nephews; dear close friends, Jessie Stevens, Lorna Gonski, Wayne and Louise Warren.
Besides his parents Mac was predeceased by his first wife Madge, son, Robert, two sisters and three brothers.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Sydney River United Church, Kings Road, with reception following the service in the church hall. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
